Bedford Town host Wingate and Finchley on Saturday afternoon in their first FA Cup Third Qualifying Round game in 17 years.
After beating fellow National League North side King’s Lynn 2-1 to progress to this stage, the Eagles now face a different challenge. Wingate and Finchley sit in 13th place in the seventh-tier Isthmian Premier Division.
However, the London side did defeat Real Bedford 3-0 last week in the first of two trips to Bedford in as many weeks so will pose a very real threat. They have overcome Felixstowe and Walton United, and Hemel Hempstead Town, needing replays on both occasions, to reach this stage.
Should Bedford emerge victorious, a place in the Fourth Qualifying Round awaits on the weekend of 17-18 October, just one step away from a place in the First Round proper.
